Inaugural Holiday in Pearl the Pajero

After the recent purchase of the new family car, we decided to pack it to the rafters and take it on its inaugural family trip.  Considering that our boys 5 & 2 had never seen snow, we thought that heading south would be the perfect destination for this adventure seeking family.  We packed everything and anything that was warm, despite hubby’s plea to cull the luggage, but I just couldn’t bear to leave a jumper at home.
The drive on the first day was a long one as we were heading to Sydney for the first night. We left Brisbane at 10am and got into Sydney around 9pm.  We thought that this was pretty good time considering we had two children in tow! The DVD player definitely kept the kids occupied and gave us time out from playing eye spy and singing the Wiggles.  After our overnight stop in Sydney it was up early again to get on the road and continue our journey.  First stop – Canberra! Definitely not what I imagined the capital of our country to be like!  A lot of the buildings looked like housing commission and it was not picturesque at all. Although it was winter and everything was dead and brown, there lacked a certain buzz I thought Canberra would hold.  Maybe I will have to visit again in warmer months to get a different perspective. However, Parliament House was definitely a reason to stop in Canberra.  What a great place.  We could have easily spent a day here sitting in on Parliament and reading all the memorabilia.  Our highlight of the morning was sitting on the rooftop eating lunch and overlooking the Old Parliament house, lake and the city whilst our boys chased the pigeons.  Great exercise for them after a morning of car travel.  After lunch we again jumped in the chariot and headed for Adaminaby, which is about 20mins drive from the Selwyn Snow Fields.  After a pit stop at the Woolies in Cooma to replenish stocks of chocolate & marshmellows we finally made it to our self contained cottage .  It was just what I had imagined when I booked it.   Very warm and cosy 2 bedrooms chalet with heated towel racks, a fireplace with already chopped wood and all on 100 acres for us to explore, we didn’t see a sole for our entire 4 night stay.  It was fantastic!  I cook up of bangers, mash and gravy was on order for dinner followed by that chocolate and some marshmellows all in front of the fire.  Once the kids finally went to bed, it was up to hubby and I to start planning the next part of our adventure …………. to tackle Mt Kosciusko and the Snowfields in NSW.
